Wrestling the Invisible: Are You Fighting the Right Enemy?
Share
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV):
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Welcome to “Talk Truth Tuesday,” where we pause to go deeper into biblical truth—right where it hits life today. This week, we’re diving into a sobering and powerful reminder from Paul: we’re not just dealing with people, politics, or personal struggles. We are in a spiritual battle—and the forces at play go far beyond what we can see.
The Real Battle Isn’t What You Think
It’s easy to believe that our struggles are against what we can touch or argue with: coworkers, government, cultural shifts, even conflict within families or churches. But God’s Word peels back the curtain and shows us the true battleground—spiritual forces of darkness working in the unseen realms.
Paul lists these enemies clearly:
- Principalities and powers
- Rulers of darkness
- Spiritual hosts of wickedness
These are not metaphors. These are organized, strategic, demonic forces with a singular goal: to oppose everything that is of Jesus Christ.
What Do These Forces Actually Do?
Andrew Wommack’s Life for Today Study Bible Notes outlines exactly how these spiritual enemies operate:
- Hinder God’s work (1 Thess. 2:17–18; Acts 17:1–9; Luke 4:5–6; Rev. 2:10)
- Blind people’s minds (2 Cor. 4:4)
- Deceive and mislead (2 Cor. 11:3)
- Tempt (1 Cor. 7:5)
- Buffet and attack God’s people (2 Cor. 12:7)
- Infiltrate the Church (2 Cor. 11:15; 1 Tim. 4:1)
This isn’t to cause fear—but to wake us up. Because God hasn’t left us defenseless.
How Do We Fight Back?
With God’s armor and His Word. We fight deception with truth. We fight temptation with Scripture. We fight fear with faith. Paul doesn’t just expose the enemy—he arms us against them.
Here’s how you stay ready:
- Pray for discernment – Don’t take someone’s word for it. Go to the Word of God yourself.
- Test everything – If it doesn’t line up with the Bible, reject it.
- Put on the whole armor of God – Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer (Ephesians 6:13–18).
The good news? You don’t fight alone. You don’t fight unarmed. And in Christ—you don’t fight for victory, you fight from victory.
