Armor of God (2 of 6): Are You Wearing Truth and Righteousness?

Armor of God Series: Ephesians 6:14 (NKJV)

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

In ancient days, men wore robes or gowns. When they had to run or were in battle, they had to gird up their loins (or mid-section). They would tuck their garments into belts or waist bands (girdles). “Paul was saying that truth is the belt that allows us to fight without being entangled in our garments. Those who do not surround themselves with truth will become entangled in their own webs of deceit and will fall. The first and preparatory piece of armor that a soldier wore was the belt. Centuries ago, men would wrestle with only a belt. The object of the match was to remove the opponent’s belt. If Satan can disarm us of our belt of truth, he will defeat us, for his greatest weapon is deceit and lies. If we are under his control, it is because we have believed one of his lies instead of the truth of God’s Word.” (Wommack, Andrew - Life for Today Study Bible.)

As Christians, we must be genuine and true, armed with the truth of Christ.

And the breastplate protects our heart and most vital organs and attaches to the belt. The breastplate is Righteousness - God’s Righteousness. “…that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith” (Phil 3:9). Righteous means morally right or justifiable, and we are not truly righteous without Christ, and Christ’s righteousness is a gift to us that comes through faith.

So how do we put this armor on? Keep steadfast in keeping the truth, the Word of God, in front of you, and remain strong in your Faith in Jesus Christ.
